Storm Boy and Other Stories: When Storm Boy goes walking along the beach or over the sandhills, or in the sanctuary the birds are not afraid. They know he is a friend. He lives with his father, Hideway Tom, in a humpy made of brush and wood. One day a group of young pelicans decide to come to visit Storm Boy and Hideaway. With their friend Fingerbone they name them - Mr Proud, Mr Ponder and Mr Percival. When two of them leave, Mr Percival stays to live with them and Storm Boy and the pelican become best friends. In return Mr Percival helps to rescue a shipwrecked fishing crew.
Pinquo: Pinquo is a fairy penguin who can swim, skip and dive faster than the blink of an eye. When Pinquo is wounded, the children Kirsty and Tim take him to Dr Piper, and they all look after Pinquo until he is ready to go to sea. Later the penguin with the droopy walk and kinky flipper comes back into their lives, with his new family. He is a castaway and all alone, until young Benny finds him. Benny is out fishing with his father, who has no time for birds alone on islands. But Benny finds him a partner - a female Magpie - and brings her to him in a basket. When magpie is again marooned, Benny decides to call the place Magpie Island.
