DESCRIPTION:

Seventeen-year-old singer Juliet Belford is irritated by her father Tony's reticence regarding his service in the airforce during World War 2, but with secrets of her own concerning an abusive stepfather, she tries to ignore it. Her ignorance proves embarrassing during a weekend visit to a small western town for the dedication of a memorial to her father's former crewmate, when she is told Martin Mansfield saved her father's life. Remembering how easily he let her mother go, she wonders if he is a coward. During the weekend Juliet worries about a threat to replace her in the band while she's away. She is frightened by the weird behaviour of Christian's grandfather, and senses a mystery concerning the death of his wife Mary. Fighting an attraction to the hero's son Christian, who is engaged to be married, she resents his mother's attempts to ensnare Tony while accusing Juliet of flirting. The next day, the Dedication of the Memorial is disrupted by a latecomer. After he is led away, Tony tells the assembly what really happened to Martin. New information leads to the solving of the mystery of Mary's death and at last, Juliet finds the courage to speak.
