DESCRIPTION:

A study of the art of book illustration based on the work of leading Australian illustrator Robert Ingpen. Contents include: - 'Pictures Telling Stories in Literature’, using examples from Robert’s classic literary recreations, such as Once Upon a Place (Lothian, 1999) - ‘Folk Tales and Myths at Work’, focusing on his many representations of myths and fables, including Fabulous Places of Myth (Lothian, 1998), Once Upon a Place and The Drover’s Boy (Lothian, 1997) - ‘Facts in Focus’, which examines Robert’s non-fiction illustration through works such as World Events, Great Ideas, Captain Cook and Robert Scott. - ‘Joining up the Dots’, analysing Robert’s approach to his arts and working methods, with such examples as his new picture books Halloween Circus, Broken Beaks and the tapestry which he recently designed to commemorate 150 years of the MCG. - (Lothian will also publish The Tapestry Story: 150 Years Celebration of the MCG in September.) The commentary is written by Sarah Mayor Cox who is a lecturer in English Education at La Trobe University, Bendigo, and a children’s book reviewer, who is currently working on a biography of Robert Ingpen’s work for her Ph.D.
