Elise Hurst (nee Fowler) is a full-time artist, living and working in Princes Hill, Victoria. Her main work at present is as an illustrator. Elise grew up watching her mother (prominent Melbourne artist Jacqueline Fowler) and many of her relations painting in a variety of styles. Elise says this gave her a head start and she was already painting pastel landscapes while at school. She has won many awards for her artwork. Her previous Lothian books were A Dream of Bunyips Dancing and The Elephants’ Big Day Out, which was shortlisted for the 2003 Crichton Award.

Margit Adam has been an editor in Australia and has worked with the UN in Italy. She and her husband and their eight-year-old twins spend most of the year in Indonesia, where her husband works for the German Embassy, and the rest of the year she runs a boutique winery from her property in the Yarra Valley in Victoria. She has travelled the world, having lived in China and India among other countries. This is her first novel.
